THE COMPOUND YYC

Once the home of The Source Skatepark, one of the biggest indoor skateparks in the world, Calgary skateboarders have endured some long winters since its closing around 2004. Some small and somewhat secretive parks have popped up, but mostly skaters have continued to roll by shoveling parks to take advantage of warmer days when chinooks blow in, or skating parkades and other usually-busts-indoor-spots.

In the last few years though, the long winters have been alleviated by the opening of The Compound YYC, a multi-purpose space in the southeast part of the city that seems to be breeding transition skaters in the mold of Riley Boland. Check out this video featuring some of the park locals that Quinton David put together.
