Celebrating 30 years of the Half Cab and 25 years of Blue Tile Lounge

Available through House of Vans Toronto pop-up on Nov. 18, and at Blue Tile Lounge and select retail locations beginning Nov. 19

Vans Skateboarding and Blue Tile Lounge skateboard shop are partnering on a new Skate Half Cab that celebrates skateboarding over the years and represents major milestones for both brands. The Vans x Blue Tile Lounge Skate Half Cab will be available at the House of Vans Toronto pop-up on Nov.18, 2022, and at Blue Tile Lounge and select Vans retail locations beginning Nov. 19, 2022.

Vans is paying tribute to the Half Cab in honor of the iconic shoe’s 30-year anniversary and the DIY skate culture that it represents. In 1992, with nothing but scissors and duct tape, kids unknowingly created the Half Cab by cutting down high tops into customized skate shoes. Acknowledging its deep roots in skateboarding, Blue Tile Lounge is also celebrating a major anniversary: 25 years as an institution in the Toronto skate community.

From Blue Tile Lounge: “Half Cabs have been making skateboarder’s tricks look better for three decades. Like blue jeans and white T-shirts, the Half Cab is a perennial staple, staying relevant while hinting at the past. Back in 1997, we were just as interested in paying homage to our roots by borrowing our name from the skateboard-friendly night club in the seminal video ‘The Search for Animal Chin,’ a video featuring none other than the shoe’s namesake, Steve Caballero.”

The Vans x Blue Tile Lounge Skate Half Cab was inspired by Blue Tiles’ affinity for their local community, including Toronto sports team the Blue Jays, as well as cultural references from some of history’s most prominent moments. Finished with blue suede uppers and accented with a cool gray embossed faux croc suede, an all-black foxing and midsole, and the original Half Cab tongue design, the silhouette also features DURACAP™ to prolong the life to the shoe and a custom Blue Tile Lounge Country Code print on the PopCush™ insole.
